Scott Hertzog

Scott Hertzog writes epic fantasy shaped by a single question:

What do people justify when they’re afraid?

For nearly three decades, Scott taught high school English, helping students discover the power stories have to shape how we see the world—and ourselves.

His fiction blends grief, memory, myth, and moral consequence, often exploring what happens when ordinary people are forced to choose between mercy and survival.

Long before writing novels, Scott spent years immersed in storytelling through teaching, podcasting, and historical research. He is the co-host of the SciFi Diner Podcast and the author of My First 250 Years: The Story of the Hertzog Homestead, a work rooted in legacy, place, and the endurance of memory across generations.

That fascination with story began early. Watching classic fantasy and science fiction sparked a lifelong love of worlds where imagination, sacrifice, and human frailty collide.

Today, Scott lives in Portugal with his wife Kristen and their son, where medieval towns, old histories, and landscapes far from home continue to shape the stories he tells.
